East Central Community College invites high school students to participate in its annual Choir Day on Thursday, October 24, 2024, on the Decatur campus. This event provides an exciting opportunity for students to sing in a mass choir under the direction of a distinguished clinician while enjoying performances by ECCC’s talented choral ensembles.
This year’s event features the Mississippi College Singers as guest performers. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to work with Dr. Beth Everett, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Mississippi College, where she conducts the MC Singers and Choctaw Chorus. In addition to her role at Mississippi College, Dr. Everett serves as the Artistic Director of The Mississippi Chorus and Interim Choir Director at First Baptist Church in Jackson. Her extensive conducting experience spans both choral music and musical theater, having prepared choruses for opera companies and conducted productions ranging from Carmen to Into the Woods. She has worked with the Natchez Festival of Music, Opera Mississippi, and Zilker Theatre Productions in Austin, Texas. Dr. Everett holds degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, Southern Methodist University, and Palm Beach Atlantic University, bringing a wealth of expertise and a dynamic presence to this year’s Choir Day.
The day’s activities will take place in Huff Auditorium, with lunch provided on the lawn in front of the auditorium. The event is open to students for a registration fee of $10 per person, which includes the clinician fee and lunch. Pizza will be served for lunch, and participants can look forward to a variety of performances and rehearsals throughout the day.
