The Holmes Bulldogs (2-4) defeated the East Central Community College Warriors (2-4-1), 4-2, in a very physical, hard-fought match April 23.

Holmes took a lead early lead as the Bulldogs netted three goals late in the first half. The scores came on a penalty kick from Lando Nichols and shots from Darrell Grantham and Andres Mendez.

At the half, Holmes took a 3-0 advantage to the locker rooms.

The Warriors did not throw the towel in as the team rattled off back-to-back goals with 32 minutes remaining in the game. The first came from a great pass from Caleb James (Jackson) and was headed in by Kai VanCourt (Long Beach). DeQuarian Buck (Vicksburg) followed just seconds later with a strong attack that ended in the back of the net. The scores cut the Bulldog's lead to 3-2.

Holmes' Grantham scored his second goal of the day just three minutes later off a corner kick, pulling the lead back to two, 4-2. A score that would hold until the final buzzer despite numerous offensive pushes from the Warriors.
