The East Central Community College Workforce Development Center will offer a free Manufacturing Skills Basic course beginning Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at the Louisville Career Advancement Center, located at 860 Church Street in Louisville.

Classes will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday nights for 10 consecutive weeks. Students must score at the Silver level on the WorkKeys assessment to participate in this course. Participants are also eligible for a weekly travel incentive if they attend class and complete all weekly class and lab assignments. The incentive will be distributed weekly.

Manufacturing Skills Basic is a 96-hour course, which can be made available throughout the college district of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston counties. It covers five major areas of knowledge with the intent of training the student to be a “shop floor” employee. Topics covered include Basic Computer Literacy, Safety and CPR, Blueprint Reading, Precision Measurement, and an introduction to manufacturing improvement methods that include lean manufacturing, quick changeover, 5S, teamwork and problem solving.
