Kiara Ruffin of Meridian was recently selected women’s assistant basketball coach at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Lady Warrior head coach Crandal Porter.
Ruffin is a former basketball standout at Alcorn State University and Southeast Lauderdale High School.
At ASU, she was named to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) All-American Team in 2011 and received All-Southwest Athletic Conference First-Team honors in 2010-11 and 2011-12. She was also selected SWAC Most Valuable Player in 2011.
Ruffin was a Dean’s List Scholar at ASU, where she received a bachelor’s degree in human science in child development in May 2013.
She helped lead Southeast Lauderdale to state titles in 2006 and 2008 and received most valuable player honors in both championship games.
She was an All-State selection from 2004-2008. She was also named to the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Team in 2008 and Mississippi All-Star squad in 2007.
Ruffin’s coaching experience includes her work at ASU Basketball Camps from 2008-2012.
