Eleven members of the 2016 East Central Community College Warrior football team received postseason honors from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and the National Junior College Athletic Association. In addition, for the second year in a row Head Coach Ken Karcher was selected as the MACJC South Division Coach of the Year.

Four Warriors were named MACJC First Team All-State and seven were named MACJC Second Team All-State. One was included on the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team.

Karcher, in his fourth season as head coach at ECCC, led the Warriors to a 5-5 record and the college’s first-ever South Division title. It was the first time in 40 years that the Warriors competed in the state playoffs in consecutive seasons.

Quarterback Dominic Marino from Venice (Fla.) High School was named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team. He was also selected for the MACJC First Team Offense and was Offensive MVP of the South Division.

Also named to the MACJC First Team All-State Offense were wide receiver Devonta Jones of Morton High School and offensive lineman Bradston Burnside of Hattiesburg High School.

Named to MACJC First Team All-State Defense was defensive back Torran “Malik” Davis of Red Bank High School in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Named to the MACJC Second Team All-State Offense were wide receiver Antonio Gibson of Eagles Landing (Ga.) High School, tight end Kalen Meggs of Richton High School, offensive lineman Lucas Orchard of Vancleave High School, and kicker Aaron Garrett of Meridian High School.

Named to the MACJC Second Team All-State Defense were defensive lineman Jalon Sangster of Louisville High School, linebacker Eric Barnes III of Seminary High School, and defensive back Isiah Thomas of Madison High School.

Gibson was a freshman at East Central this fall. The other players receiving honors were sophomores.
