The East Central Community College Lady Warrior basketball team fell 81-78 in a heartbreaker against the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs Thursday, Feb. 23, in a packed out Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on “Sophomore Night” in Decatur.

ECCC jumped out to an early lead in the first half, going up by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, but a Hinds’ rally gave the Lady Bulldogs a 43-42 lead at the intermission.

The game went back forth in the second half. The Lady Warriors actually had the lead at 78-77 with 1:08 left in the game. After Hinds went back up 81-78, East Central just missed a potential game tying three-pointer with seconds left on the clock.

Leading all scorers was ECCC freshman Autumn Taylor of Newton High School with 21 points and 10 rebounds, followed by freshman Curtisha Coleman of Wayne County High School with 19 points, and sophomore Laneisha Jeans of Pine Forest (Fla.) High School adding 15 points.

ECCC ends the regular season 12-11 overall and 6-8 in the MACJC South Division.
