The No. 15 ranked East Central Community College Lady Warriors opened MACJC Conference play with a couple of run-rule wins over the visiting Coahoma Lady Tigers Friday, March 6, at the Softball Park on the campus in Decatur.

The Lady Warriors overcame a slow start in the opener as sophomore Braelyn Boykin (Mize) pitched a one-hit shutout for the 8-0 win. East Central won the second game 18-0.

The Lady Warriors are now 10-4 on the season. Coahoma falls to 0-4

East Central led just 1-0 before scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end game one by run-rule. Sophomore center fielder Parker Breland (Union) had a triple and single and two RBI in the win. Sophomore left fielder Olivia Houston (Northwest Rankin), sophomore catcher Anna McNeer (Canton Academy), freshman first baseman Zharia Richardson (Harrison Central), and sophomore designated hitter Annabell Watkins (Leake Academy) each had two hits as the Lady Warriors collected 13. Freshman second baseman Landree Amis (Newton County) scored the game’s first run in the first inning after she tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly.

Boykin faced just 17 batters and struck out six in getting the win in the circle.

East Central batted around and scored five runs in the first inning of game two to set the pace. The Lady Warriors scored two more in the second, three in the third, and eight in the fourth get the 18-0 win.

Sophomore Brooklyn King (George County) and freshman Gracey Baucom (Purvis) combined to hold the Lady Tigers to just one hit while facing just 16 batters.

East Central had 15 hits in the win, including seven doubles and a two-run homer by McNeer, her fifth of the season. Freshman designated hitter Morgan Partridge (Enterprise) had a double and single and three RBI to pace the Lady Warriors. Breland, Houston, McNeer, and sophomore third baseman Hannah Dufault (Hurley, East Central) all had two runs batted in, and sophomore shortstop Kaylee Webb (Ruston, La.), sophomore first baseman Kailee Swindle (Hattiesburg, Presbyterian School), Dufault, and Watkins had two hits each.

East Central will host No. 19 Lansing (Mich.) at the Softball Park on campus Sunday, March 8, for two games that start at 2 p.m. The Lady Warriors will then host Marion Military on Tuesday, March 10. Doubleheader action at the Softball Park begins at 3 p.m.
