The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams swept Holmes Community College for this second time this spring season in matches played Tuesday, April 4, in Goodman.

The No. 17 ranked Warriors defeated the Bulldogs 7-2, while the regionally ranked Lady Warriors won 9-0. The ECCC men are now 10-4 on the season, while the women are 7-7.

The East Central teams now return home to face several ranked opponents. The No. 19 Copiah-Lincoln men and No. 25 women visit the new Tennis Complex in Decatur on Wednesday, April 5, at 2 p.m. The No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast men and No. 21 women visit Decatur Friday, April 7, at 2 p.m. The No. 15 Marion Military Institute men and No. 14 women visit Saturday, April 8, for matches at 10 a.m.

“We are looking forward to some very good teams coming to our place over the rest of the week,” said ECCC coach Jay Pacelli.

In men’s doubles action against Holmes, the EC team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School defeated Matthew Philly/Matthew Dubourg, 8-1; EC’s John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School defeated Eric Menefee/Merritt Blackwell, 8-1; and EC’s Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School beat Chris Stuckey/Emanuel Brooks, 8-5.

In singles play, Holmes’ Philly defeated EC’s Emontie Lewis out of Terry High School, 6-4, 6-2; EC’s Jimenez defeated Menefee, 6-0, 6-0; EC’s Jabour defeated Blackwell, 6-2, 6-1; Holmes’ Dubourg beat EC’s Mark Stewart from Terry High School, 6-2, 6-4; EC’s Rogers defeated Hayden Switzer, 6-2, 6-2; and EC’s Graham Murphree out of Newton County High School beat Rylee Artman, 6-2, 6-1.

In the women’s doubles matches, EC’s Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School defeated Ashleigh Pope/Brittany Graham, 8-2; EC’s Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and An Duong from Richland High School beat Savanna Bell/Lucy Oakes, 8-0; and EC’s Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School beat Oddysey Brewer/Jessica May, 8-0.

In women’s singles play, EC’s Samantha McCrimon defeated Pope, 6-4, retired; EC’s Mills beat Oakes, 6-0, 6-0; EC’s Johnston defeated Graham, 6-0, 6-0; EC’s Payne beat May, 6-2, 6-4; EC’s Duong beat Brewer, 6-0, 6-0; and EC’s Emily Dykeman of Forest High School defeated Bell, 6-2 6-0.
