The East Central Community College baseball team defeated Itawamba Community College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 5, at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.
The Diamond Warriors won 13-1 in the seven-inning game one win.
Two big innings propelled East Central in game one. ECCC took the early lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Diamond Warriors then added six more runs in the fifth to push the lead to 10-0.
Sophomore Dylan Snypes out of Wayne County High School had three RBI on two hits, homering in the bottom of the sixth.
T.J. Lockett out of Bibb County (Ala.) High School and Reagan Warren out of Newton County High School both had two RBI each. Lockett also added a home run in game one.
Right-hander Taylor Creighton out Quitman High School picked up the win for East Central. Creighton allowed one run on four hits over three innings.
Playing errorless ball in game two, ECCC beat Itawamba’s Indians 11-1 in a five inning run-rule game.
The Diamond Warriors scored six runs in the third inning to set the pace.
Snypes had two RBI on three hits in game two. Billy Cameron out of Mendenhall High School and Blake Paben out of Madison Central High School each had two RBI as well.
Left-handed pitcher Luke Yancey out of East Rankin High School got it done on the mound for the Diamond Warriors. Yancey allowed one run over four innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven batters.
East Central will be on the road Tuesday, March 8, against Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
The Diamond Warriors overall record improves to 12-4.
The Diamond Warriors will be back at home at Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur on Saturday, March 12, against Northwest Mississippi Community College to begin conference action. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
