East Central Community College had 19 students honored at the Cosmetology Program Completion Ceremony on Friday, July 21 at the Ovid S. Vickers Fine Arts Auditorium on the Decatur campus.  

Madison Butts, a Union native and Cosmetology Student of the Year, opened the ceremony with an invocation before ECCC President Dr. Brent Gregory gave opening remarks.  
 
Special recognition was given by cosmetology instructor Aubrie Howell, while Career Student of the Year, Gracie Townsend of Collinsville gave the student address. Director of Career and Technical Education, Cody Spence then presented the certificates to each completer and the students were pinned by Howell. The benediction was given by Hannah Bane of Morton.  
 
Completers included: Hannah Bane of Morton, Baleigh Boutwell of Newton, Lauren Boxx of Forest, Madison Butts of Union, Lexi Edwards of Philadelphia, Annabelle Fry of Union, Taylor Garrison of Decatur, Jaelen Hathorne of Louisville, Celia Isaac of Choctaw, Amber Johnson of Morton, Sherlyn Lopez of Carthage, Jada McMichael of Louisville, Layana Morris of Philadelphia, Nikki Parker of Forest, Harley Robertson of Philadelphia, Harl’e Rucker of Little Rock, Hailey Towne of Preston, Gracie Townsend of Collinsville and Logan Wilson of Louin. 
 
The cosmetology course is designed for those who want to become a cosmetologist. The course has the approval of the Mississippi State Board of Education and the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology along with the support and approval of beauty salon owners and operators throughout the state.   The cosmetology program is a 12-month program during which the student must complete 1500 clock hours of training and maintain an average grade of 70 in theory and skill coursework to be eligible to take the State Board Examination in order to attain a license.
