ECCC Cancels Saturday’s WarriorFest Due to Potential Weather Issues

East Central Community College’s 2017 WarriorFest scheduled for Saturday, April 22, has been canceled due to potential weather issues that day.

WarriorFest is an annual spring event sponsored by the ECCC Alumni Association.

The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges baseball doubleheader between ECCC and Itawamba Community College scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, will now be played on Friday, April 21, because of the potential for rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. The games are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex on the campus in Decatur.

“Unfortunately because of the activities we had planned for this year’s WarriorFest we must make a decision sooner rather than later in the week,” said David LeBlanc, ECCC’s director of alumni relations and the foundation. “Having the event on Saturday was key to WarriorFest being the high-quality event that people expect from East Central Community College and for it to be an enjoyable event for our alumni and friends.

“With the baseball game moving to Friday and with the current weather forecast for Saturday, we felt it was in everyone’s best interest to cancel the event and begin planning for next spring.”

With only two weeks remaining in the MACJC baseball regular season and with playoff ramifications on the line, ECCC head baseball coach Neal Holliman said the doubleheader with Itawamba was moved to ensure the two games get played.

The ECCC Lady Diamond Warrior softball team is scheduled to play a doubleheader with Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. A decision on whether to move those games to Friday will be made by Thursday morning.
