East Central Community College in Decatur is ranked among the top 30 community colleges in the United States for both quality and affordability in a new study recently released by AffordableColleges.com.

ECCC was ranked No. 29 in the rankings published online at www.affordablecolleges.com.

“East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi, is a notably affordable institution to earn an associate degree. … Combining cheap rates with high quality, ECCC is one of the best community colleges in the region,” wrote the editors at AffordableColleges.com in recognizing ECCC.

AffordableColleges.com assigns each school a Value Score by weighing criteria such as loan default rates, graduation rates, and financial data to draw a distinction between the programs that appear inexpensive upfront and those that will pay off in the long run.

“We are particularly pleased with this national recognition because it not only recognizes the affordability of East Central Community College, but the quality of our instructional programs,” said ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart. “Our vision is to be nationally recognized and locally preferred, and to be recognized nationally for quality programs that are reasonably priced is an honor. In addition, I am confident that both quality and affordability were contributing factors in the tremendous enrollment increase we experienced this fall.”

East Central students currently benefit from the lowest tuition in the state of Mississippi.

According to its website, AffordableColleges.com is a free resource designed to help prospective students find schools and programs that match their education interests while still being affordable.

“Often students opt for the most inexpensive program they can find, without taking a holistic account of the quality and value of the school. With this in mind, we at AffordableColleges.com have designed a sophisticated methodology to serve as a reliable indicator of quality, affordability, and student success.”
