After falling behind by seven points at the half, the East Central Community College men’s basketball team fought back to beat Meridian Community College 80-74 Monday, Feb. 6, in Meridian.

The Warriors put up 50 points in the second half to earn the road victory.

Sophomore Tonzell Handy out of Lanier High School posted a double-double performance with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Cayman “C.J.” Ruffin of Neshoba Central High School finished with 12 points and Jaylon Bardley of New Hope High School added 11 points and four steals.

The game see-sawed back and forth during the second half, before East Central took the lead for good with 26 seconds left in the game in earning the six point win. 

With the win, ECCC moved to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the MACJC South Division. The Warriors currently sit in fourth place in the south.

East Central will host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, who they lost a heartbreaker to less than a month ago, Thursday, Feb. 9, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur at 7:30 p.m.
