A hat trick by sophomore midfielder Fredy Gutierrez powered the East Central Community College men’s soccer team to its fourth straight win, a 4-2 MACJC North Division victory over Itawamba Community College in a match played Oct. 5 in Fulton.

Gutierrez, who prepped at Pontotoc High School, put East Central up early 1-0 with his first goal. Itawamba added two first-half goals to take the lead at intermission. Gutierrez added his second and third goals in the second half to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead before a header by East Central’s freshman midfielder Tanner Lindsey out of Northwest Rankin High School found the net and moved the final margin to 4-2.

Gutierrez was recently named the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his six shots on goal, three goals and one assist in a pair of Warrior wins last week.

With the win, the Warriors improved to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the North Division.

East Central will host Northwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. in Decatur.
