East Central Community College’s Theta Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda and 14 students received national recognition during the PBL National Leadership Conference held June 24-27 in Anaheim, Calif. More than 2,500 students from colleges and universities across the nation participated in more than 50 events. The annual PBL conference highlights outstanding students in business and leadership roles. 

Theta Chi was the only Mississippi Chapter to receive the Diamond Chapter Award and was also named a Gold Seal Chapter, one of only two awarded in Mississippi. The group also received a second place award in fundraising for the March of Dimes and the Big 10 Award for placing fourth in chapter membership.

Paxton Holmes of Morton was honored with induction into Who’s Who in PBL, which is awarded to only one student per state. Jessica Everett of Decatur was recognized as Mississippi PBL state president.

The following Individual awards were also presented: Khalil Triplett and Kiara Cunningham, both of Philadelphia, and Jessica Everett of Decatur, first place, small business plan; Joseph Blount of Philadelphia and Courtney Bell and TaMaya Pace, both of Forest, fourth place, integrated marketing campaign; Nicole Ferguson, Joseph Blount and Samantha Stovall, all of Philadelphia, Paxton Holmes of Morton and Morgan Cain of Carthage, fourth place, parliamentary procedure; Tanner Hardy of Philadelphia and Kevin Smith of Newton, seventh place, network design; Ferguson and Bell, ninth place, computer animation; and Drew Chapman of Union, ninth place, forensic accounting.

Christy Ferguson, Thomas Fortenberry and Judy Hurtt serve as advisors.
