East Central Community College students captured top awards in nine areas of competition during the 2017 Mississippi SkillsUSA state competition held recently.

Award winners included Larry Reid of Lake, first place in related technical math; Jacob Perry of Louisville, first place in plumbing; Cauley Mayo of Louin, first place in industrial motor control; Maliyah Brown of Meridian, first place in early childhood education; Joseph Alford of Union, second place in major appliance repair; Nicholas Black of Philadelphia, Austin Chaney of Hickory and Kwasniewski Glenn of Louisville, second place in welding fabrication; Florencia Echave of Forest, Garrett Hollingsworth of Lake, Jerry Thompson of Chunky and Jesus Toledano of Lake, second place in TeamWorks; Will Boswell of Newton, third place in automotive refinishing technology; and Scott Main of Meridian, third place in diesel equipment technology.

Justin Smith of Carthage was elected the post-secondary SkillsUSA president for Mississippi.

Mayo and Perry qualified to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference June 19-23 in Louisville, Ky.
