The East Central Community College Lady Warriors held No. 11 ranked Holmes Community College without a goal for the first 70 minutes of play before falling 2-0 to the Lady Bulldogs in a match played Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

The Lady Warriors held the undefeated Lady Bulldogs to just two late goals in the loss. The Holmes women came into the match averaging nearly five goals per outing.

The East Central Lady Warriors fell to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the MACJC North Division. With the win, the Holmes Lady Bulldogs are now 13-0 on the season and 6-0 in division play.

In the men’s action that followed, Holmes broke a 2-2 tie in the 81st minute to pick up a 4-2 North Division win over the East Central Warriors.

With the men’s match tied 2-2 with just nine minutes to play, the Holmes Bulldogs got two goals within one minute of play to get the 4-2 win.

East Central sophomore midfielder Vitor Gomes (Fortaleza, Brazil) scored both goals for the Warriors on assists from sophomore midfielder Francisco Romero of Ripley. Gomes is the leading the scorer in the MACJC North Division and was named the MACJC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 1-7.

With the loss, the Warriors fell to 3-10 overall and 3-4 in division play. The Holmes Bulldogs improved to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in division play.

The East Central teams close out the regular season on Monday, Oct. 15, at Hinds. The matches in Raymond are set for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
