The East Central Community College soccer teams opened their home seasons Friday, Aug. 31, dropping a pair of matches to visiting MACJC North Division foe Itawamba Community College at the Soccer Field in Decatur.

The Lady Warriors took a 1-0 lead into halftime but could not hold on as the Itawamba Lady Indians scored two second half goals for the 2-1 win.

Freshman forward Leah Anderson of Leyland, England, got East Central’s first half goal.

The Lady Warriors are now 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in MACJC North Division play. The Lady Indians improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.

In the men’s matchup, the East Central Warriors couldn’t overcome a three-goal ICC lead in a 3-2 loss. The Indians held a 2-0 lead at the half and tacked on another goal in the second half to lead 3-0. East Central later got goals from sophomore midfielders Vitor Gomes (Fortaleza, Brazil) and Hunter Holdiness out of Warren Central in Vicksburg, but they weren’t enough. Freshman midfielder Sean Dixon, also out of Warren Central, assisted on both goals.

The Warriors are now 0-3 overall the season and 0-1 in the league, while the Itawamba Indians are 2-2 and 1-0.

Following a trip to Senatobia to face MACJC North Division opponent Northwest Mississippi Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, the Warriors and Lady Warriors are home again on Friday, Sept. 7, against division foe Holmes Community College. The women will play at 3 p.m., followed by the men at 5 p.m.
