The No. 9 nationally ranked East Central Community College softball team ended regular season play Friday, April 21, with a couple of run-rule wins over visiting Baton Rouge Community College.

The Lady Diamond Warriors won the first game 11-3 in six innings and then took the second game 12-1 in five innings.

With the wins, East Central improved to 40-6 overall on the season and 23-5 in MACJC league play.

Sophomore Brantlie Sheets out of Nanih Waiya got the start in the circle on Sophomore Day in Decatur and picked up her first win of the season throwing all six innings.

Baton Rouge took an early 1-0 lead before East Central blew the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third inning. The inning was keyed by three home runs. Kayla Beckham out of Neshoba Central had a two-run homer, and Cassie Obman from Caledonia and Katherine Shell from Brookhaven had solo home runs in the inning.

Mackenzie Johnson from Nanih Waiya led the 15-hit attack with three hits. Abby Winstead from Sebastopol had four RBI on a single and a sacrifice. Beckham, Obman, and Shelby Walters from Northwest Rankin each had two hits.

The Lady Diamond Warriors scored in each of the first four innings of game two for the 12-1 win. East Central put six runners across the plate in the bottom of the second.

Madalyn McMahon from Neshoba Central and Tagen Remmel from Clinton hit East Central’s fourth and fifth home runs of the afternoon in game two. McMahon, Remmel, Obman, and Brittney McCray from Sumrall all had two RBI in the game. Kenyatta Moore from Philadelphia had three hits and scored three runs.

Kaitlyn Oswalt from Heritage Academy in Columbus got the start and the win in the circle, her 21st of the year. Mackenzie Rousseau from Vanderbilt Catholic in Houma, La., came on and pitched two scoreless innings.

East Central will now host an MACJC State Playoffs first round series on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. The opponent and game times will be announced Wednesday, April 26. ECCC will be the No. 4 seed and will host the No. 5 seed.
