The No. 14 East Central Community College Lady Warrior softball team picked up a sweep Wednesday, March 22, over Hinds Community College in Raymond.

East Central won the opener of the doubleheader 5-0, and then took game two 9-6.

The Lady Warriors are now 24-4 on the season and 9-3 in MACJC league play. Hinds drops to 6-21 overall.

Freshman Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy in Columbus picked up her 14th win of the year in the circle in game one, pitching a shutout game in seven innings of work and surrendering six hits while striking out seven.

East Central got the only run it would need in the top of the first on an RBI single by freshman Cassie Obman from Caledonia High School for an early 1-0 lead. Obman also doubled in a run in the two-run top of the third for the Lady Warriors. ECCC added the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Warriors added single runs in the top of the fifth and seventh on a sacrifice fly and a double off the bat of Shelby Walters of Northwest Rankin High School.

In game two, ECCC scored seven runs in the top of the third for a lead they would not surrender.

The game was tied 2-2 in the top of the third when Walters singled driving in a run to give East Central the lead for good. The Lady Warriors also scored in the third inning off an Obman single, a single off the bat of Marlee Parkes of Nanih Waiya High School, a fielder's choice, and three-run RBI single from Kayla Beckham of Neshoba Central High School.

Parkes, Obman, Brittney McCray of Sumrall High School and Mackenzie Johnson of Nanih Waiya High School all had two hits each in game two, while Beckham had three RBI on three hits.

Freshman pitcher Mackenzie Rousseau out of Vanderbilt Catholic High School in Houma, La., picked up her 10th win of the year.

ECCC will travel to Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead Saturday, March 25, for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Lady Diamond Warriors return home Tuesday, March 28, to host Copiah-Lincoln Community College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Softball Park in Decatur.
