Behind the strong pitching of two freshmen, the No. 12 East Central Community College Lady Warriors swept a doubleheader from Marion Military Institute 7-0 and 4-1 in softball action Thursday, Feb. 23, in Marion, Ala.

With the wins, East Central improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season. Marion Military fell to 8-12.

The two teams met earlier this month in Decatur with East Central winning both games.

In the game one win, freshman Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy in Columbus tossed a two-hit shutout, while striking out nine Marion batters. Oswalt improved to 6-0 on the season.

East Central jumped on top early with three runs in the top of the first on a two-run single by freshman Cassie Obman from Caledonia High School and a Marion error. Obman singled in another run in the fifth. Freshmen Madalyn McMahon and Kayla Beckham, former teammates at Neshoba Central, both bunted in runs and Obman singled in another run in the seventh for the final 7-0 score.

Obman was 3-4 with four RBI in the win.

In game two, freshman Mackenzie Rousseau out of Vanderbilt Catholic (Houma, La.) picked up the win in the circle tossing seven innings of three-hit softball and striking out five batters.

The Warriors runs came off a Beckham RBI single in the first, an RBI single by sophomore Brittney McCray from Sumrall High School in the third, and another Obman RBI single and an error in the seventh.

East Central pounded out 20 hits in the doubleheader sweep.
