The No. 9 nationally ranked East Central Community College Lady Warrior softball team swept the visiting Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears in an MACJC doubleheader Wednesday, April 19, at the Softball Park in Decatur.

East Central won the first game 2-1 and followed that with a 9-1 win in the nightcap.

East Central is now 38-6 on the season and 21-5 in MACJC league play. Southwest fell to 18-23 and 14-12 in league play.

Game one was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Marlee Parkes of Nanih Waiya High School singled to drive in the winning run. 

East Central captured the lead early in the first inning when Kayla Beckham of Neshoba Central grounded out to score one run.

Southwest tied the ballgame in the top of the third inning on a single.

Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy in Columbus got the win. Oswalt is now 20-4 on the season.

East Central ran away with the lead in game two scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning on a triple by Parkes and a home run by Tagen Remmel of Clinton High School.

ECCC added three more in the fourth on a three-run homer off the bat of Cassie Obman of Caledonia High School.

Freshman Mackenzie Rousseau out of Vanderbilt Catholic in Houma, La., picked up the win in the circle. She pitched six innings, surrendering one run and one hit, while striking out three.

The Lady Warriors will host Baton Rouge Community College on Sophomore Day in Decatur Friday, April 21, for games at 3 and 5 p.m.
