Several East Central Community College student-athletes received honors during the college’s 2017 Fall Sports Awards Banquet held recently in Mabry Cafeteria on the campus in Decatur.

Those honored, and their respective high schools, were:

Football
Sophomore punter Drake Pace of Sumrall, Academic Award; sophomore offensive lineman Josh McMullen of East Webster, Offensive Captain Award and Second Team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State; freshman defensive back Keonte’ Daniels of Noxapater, Defensive Captain Award, First Team MACJC All-State, and National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 23; sophomore tight end Nigel Wood of Petal, Most Improved Offensive Player Award; freshman linebacker V.J. Swanier of Pass Christian, Most Improved Defensive Player Award; sophomore wide receiver Antonio Gibson of Eagles Landing (Stockbridge, Ga.), First Team MACJC All-State; and freshman quarterback Mario Asagunla of Hillcrest Christian (Jackson), Luke 2:52 Award.

Men’s Soccer
Sophomore defender Andrew Bernard of Southeast Lauderdale, Academic Award, Most Valuable Player Award, First Team MACJC All-State, and MACJC North All-Star Team; freshman midfielder Francisco Romero of Ripley, Golden Boot Award and First Team MACJC All-State; sophomore defender Tyler White of Madison-Ridgeland Academy, Best Defense Award, NJCAA All-Region 23, and MACJC North All-Star Team; sophomore midfielder Henry Artica of Oxford, Hustle Award, Warrior Award, and First Team MACJC All-State; sophomore midfielder Jacob Thomas of Northwest Rankin, Team Captain, First Team MACJC All-State, and MACJC North All-Star Team; sophomore defender Hector Mendoza of Center Hill, Honorable Mention MACJC All-State and MACJC North All-Star Team; sophomore forward Tanner Lindsey of Northwest Rankin, Honorable Mention MACJC All-State; sophomore defender Cory Furlow of Clinton, Honorable Mention MACJC All-State; and sophomore forward Joseph Stewart of Callaway (Jackson), Honorable Mention MACJC All-State. Dylan Shoemaker, a freshman goalkeeper from Forest, was honored twice during the season as MACJC Men’s Goalkeeper of the Week.

The ECCC men’s soccer team also won the MACJC’s Tom Shepherd Sportsmanship Award for the third time since it was first presented in 2004.

Women’s Soccer
Sophomore midfielder Aubree Patterson of Richland, Academic Award, Team Leader Award, First Team MACJC All-State, and MACJC North All-Star Team; sophomore midfielder Ashley Langham of Florence, Golden Boot Award, Most Valuable Player, Team Leader Award, NJCAA All-Region 23, and MACJC North All-Star Team; sophomore defender Ryan Gunter of George County, Best Defense Award; freshman forward Kelli Vaughn of Stanhope Elmore (Millbrook Ala.), Hustle Award; freshman forward Helaina Wellington of Sydney, Australia, Team Leader Award; sophomore midfielder Haley Hutcherson of Clarkdale, Team Leader Award and Warrior Award; freshman midfielder Kelsey Bayles of Northwest Rankin, Honorable Mention MACJC All-State; sophomore defender Kaitlynn Summerlin of Florence, Honorable Mention MACJC All-State; and sophomore forward Cailee Helen McClain of Starkville, MACJC North All-Star Team. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Gilliland of Northwest Rankin was honored as the MACJC Women’s Goalkeeper of the Week during the season, and Langham received the MACJC Women’s Offensive Player of the Week award.
