The nationally ranked East Central Community College tennis teams swept the visitors from Hinds in tennis action on the Decatur campus Feb. 25, with the Lady Warriors winning 7-2 and the Warriors getting an 8-1 victory.

With the wins, the No. 21 Lady Warriors are now 5-2 on the season and the No. 20 Warriors are 3-3.

“The women took care of business,” said ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. “Josie Hurst and Ali Grace Walker continue to play good all-around tennis to lead the way. It was a solid victory for the men. Chris Albert and Dominick Donaldson played inspired tennis at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.”

Women’s Doubles Results:
HCC’s Elizabeth Wooten and Anesha Smith defeated EC’s Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota, Colombia), 9-8 (7-5); EC’s Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated HCC’s Ally Massey and Chloe Barton, 8-2; and EC’s Kayla Baucum (Newton County) and Marla Graham (Newton County Academy) won by forfeit.

Women’s Singles Results:
EC’s Beltran defeated HCC’s Emi Smith, 6-1, 6-1; HCC’s Wooten defeated EC’s Vargas, 6-4, 6-1; EC’s Walker defeated HCC’s Massey, 6-3, 6-1; EC’s Hurst defeated HCC’s Anesha Smith, 6-1, 6-2; EC’s Baucum defeated HCC’s Barton, 6-1, 6-2; and EC’s Graham won by forfeit.

Men’s Doubles Results:
EC’s Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated HCC’s Abraham Lopez Gonzalez and Chambers Bethea, 8-3; EC’s Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated HCC’s Chris Adams and Eli Sykes, 8-4; and EC’s Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Chris Albert (Vicksburg, St. Aloysius) defeated HCC’s Bryce Ramshur and Tommy Sims, 8-3.

Men’s Singles Results:
EC’s Lawrance defeated HCC’s Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-4; EC’s Santitto defeated HCC’s Adams, 6-0, 6-2; EC’s Barnett defeated HCC’s Sims, 6-0, 6-1; HCC’s Bethea defeated EC’s Chaney 6-3, 6-3; EC’s Albert defeated HCC’s Ramshur, 6-3, 6-4; and EC’s Donaldson defeated HCC’s Sykes, 6-3, 6-0.

The East Central teams are back in action on Friday, Feb. 28, when they travel to Ellisville to face Jones at 1 p.m. The Jones women are ranked No. 19 nationally and the Jones men are No. 20. The Warriors will also play a match Saturday, Feb. 29, against Gadsden State (Ala.) at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Complex on campus.
