The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams lost a pair of matches to nationally ranked Jones County Junior College Thursday, April 5, in Ellisville.
The East Central women lost a 7-2 match to the No. 15 ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats, and the ECCC men fell 7-2 to the No. 25 ranked Jones County Bobcats.
In the women’s doubles matches, EC’s Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Tatiana Quinonez (Bogota, Colombia) lost to Mireia Jordan/Ariadna Jordan, 8-3; EC’s Alexis Tindall of Newton County Academy and Caylee Grace Yarborough of Loyd Star lost to Beth Owen/Kaylee McLaurin, 8-2; and EC’s Julia Johnston of Florence and Sara Mazzella of Newton County Academy fell to August Parker/Brooke Cran, 9-7.
In the women’s singles, EC’s Gomez lost to Mireia Jordan, 6-0, 6-0; EC’s Quinonez lost to Ariadna Jordan, 6-2, 6-0; EC’s Tindall fell to Owen, 6-1, 6-0; EC’s Yarborough lost to McLaurin, 6-0, 6-2; EC’s Bethany Wellerman out of Newton County Academy beat Parker, 6-2, 7-5; and EC’s Johnston defeated Cran, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4.
In the men’s doubles action, EC’s Tom Langelaar (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central defeated Cody Courtney/Mitar Milosavljevic, 8-1; EC’s Willie Wooten of Warren Central and Landon Gibson of Clarkdale lost to Noel Monsalve/James Estrada, 8-5; and EC’s Emontie Lewis of Terry and Jake Wofford of East Webster lost to Erich Fischer/Jed Slover, 9-8 (7-5).
In the men’s singles, EC’s Langelaar lost to Milosavljevic, 6-3, 6-2; EC’s Jabour lost to Monsalve, 7-5, 6-2; EC’s Wooten defeated Courtney, 6-2, 6-4; EC’s Lewis lost to Estrada, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5; EC’s Gibson lost to Fischer, 6-2, 6-4; and EC’s Isaac Keen of Winston Academy lost to Daniel Tanious, 6-3, 6-2.
After home matches with Marion Military Institute at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, the East Central men and women will travel to Raymond to face Hinds Community College at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 10.
