East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis players combined to win 22 matches over a three-day period while competing individually in the ITA Southern Regionals Sept. 26-28 at the Northeast Park Tennis Center in Meridian.

East Central sophomore Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) made it to the Singles Finals, while Lawrance and doubles partner sophomore Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) advanced to the Doubles Finals.

ECCC Lady Warrior freshmen Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota Colombia) won three matches to claim the Back Draw Doubles on the women’s side.

“All of our players participated at ITA Regionals and played at a high level despite the difficult, hot conditions,” said ECCC Head Tennis Coach Jay Pacelli. “I’m particularly proud of Chris Lawrance in singles and Chris and Isaac Santitto in doubles making the finals and further establishing themselves as two of the best players in the region.

“I was also was impressed with newcomers Alejandra Vargas and Natalia Beltran winning the Back Draw Doubles after a tough start in the tournament. Several of our players won early round matches showing the talent both teams have as we prepare for the 2020 season.”

The East Central men’s and women’s teams continue their fall seasons with exhibition matches against the teams from Mississippi University for Women at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the ECCC Tennis Complex in Decatur.
