Four nationally ranked tennis teams squared off on the East Central Community College campus in Decatur Friday, Feb. 10, with the teams from Gulf Coast coming out victorious in both matches.

The No. 18 Gulf Coast women defeated the No. 20 ECCC Lady Warriors 6-3, while the No. 19 Gulf Coast men won 7-2 over the No. 21 East Central men.

With the losses, the Lady Warriors are 1-1 on the season and the Warriors are 0-2. It was the season opener for both Gulf Coast teams.

Women’s Doubles Results:
GC’s Krissy Georgieva and Noni Charlton defeated EC’s Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota, Colombia), 8-2; EC’s Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated GC’s Anna Stringer and Kaylen Bond, 8-3; and GC’s Tia Topps and Chasity Snyder defeated EC’s Kayla Baucum (Newton County) and Marla Graham (Newton County Academy), 8-6.

Women’s Singles Results:
GC’s Georgieva defeated EC’s Beltran, 2-6, 6-1 (12-10); GC’s Charlton defeated EC’s Vargas, 6-2, 6-2; EC’s Walker defeated GC’s Stringer, 6-2, 6-1; GC’s Bond defeated EC’s Hurst, 6-4, 7-5; GC’s Tops defeated EC’s Baucum 6-1, 6-1; and EC’s Graham defeated GC’s Snyder, 6-4, 6-2.

Men’s Doubles Results:
EC’s Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated GC’s Serban Bonchis and Patrick Roth, 8-6; GC’s Seth Macute and Wesley Fontaine defeated EC’s Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County), 8-2; and GC’s Clint Verrett and Raymond Lam defeated EC’s Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Rhy Elizar (Florence), 8-1.

Men’s Singles Results:
EC’s Lawrance defeated GC’s Bonchis, 6-3, 6-3; GC’s Macute defeated Santitto, 4-6, 6-1 (10-6); GC’s Roth defeated EC’s Barnett, 6-0, 6-1; GC’s Fontaine defeated EC’s Chaney, 6-0, 6-1; GC’s Verrett defeated EC’s Elizar, 6-2, 6-1; and GC’s Lam defeated EC’s Donaldson, 6-3, 6-0.

After matches at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala., on Saturday, Feb. 8, the East Central teams will host Copiah-Lincoln at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and Southwest at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. The Lady Warriors will play Snead State (Ala.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Tennis Complex on campus.
