The nationally ranked teams from Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan., grabbed a pair of 9-0 wins over the East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams in matches played Monday, March 19, at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The No. 7 ranked Cowley Tigers and the No. 11 ranked Lady Tigers are playing several matches in the state of Mississippi during their spring break.

The East Central Lady Warriors fell to 4-4 on the season, while the Warriors are now 0-8.

In the women’s doubles matches, Cowley’s Kristela Vidnere/Mariia Kovalska defeated EC’s Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Tatiana Quinonez (Bogota, Colombia), 8-2; Cowley’s Aletta Macheli/Mariana Rodriguez defeated EC’s Alexis Tindall of Newton County Academy and Caylee Grace Yarborough of Loyd Star, 8-2; and Cowley’s Caroline Lamer/Margot Fontaine beat EC’s Julia Johnston of Florence and Sara Mazzella of Newton County Academy, 8-0.

In the women’s singles, Vidnere defeated EC’s Gomez, 8-0; Kovalska beat EC’s Quinonez, 8-5; Laura Rincon Arias beat EC’s Tindall, 6-0, 6-1; Macheli beat EC’s Yarborough, 6-0, 6-0; Rodriguez defeated EC’s Bethany Wellerman of Newton County Academy, 6-0, 6-1; and Fontaine beat EC’s Johnston, 6-0, 6-3.

In the men’s doubles action, Cowley’s Angelo Yasuro Ito Tost/Bruno Hidoka Suiama beat EC’s Tom Langelaar (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central, 8-3; Cowley’s Gaston Walitzky/Valter Kenji Imura Oshiro beat EC’s Willie Wooten of Warren Central and Landon Gibson of Clarkdale, 8-1; and Cowley’s Killian Dagneaux/Casey Edwards beat EC’s Jake Wofford of East Webster and Wilton Ladner of Stone County, 8-2.

In the men’s singles, Tost defeated EC’s Langelaar, 6-1, 6-0; Suiama beat EC’s Jabour, 6-1, 6-0; Oshiro defeated EC’s Wooten, 6-1, 6-2; Cowley’s Wlayimer Jimenez beat EC’s Emontie Lewis of Terry, 6-0, 6-3; Dagneaux beat EC’s Gibson 8-1; and Edwards beat EC’s Isaac Keen of Winston Academy, 8-0.

The East Central teams have three home matches in the next eight days. Holmes Community College visits Decatur Friday, March 23, for matches at 1 p.m. Wallace State Community College (Hanceville, Ala.) visits Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m., and the Warriors and Lady Warriors will host Meridian Community College on Tuesday, March 27, at 3 p.m.

The Meridian women are ranked No. 19 nationally and the Meridian men are No. 11. The Wallace State men are No 23.
