The No. 11 ranked Northwest Rangers defeated the East Central Community College Warriors 16-2 and 3-2 in extra innings in MACJC baseball action Saturday, April 27, at Jim Miles Field on the Northwest campus in Senatobia.

The Warriors are now 20-19 overall on the season and 13-11 in the league. No. 11 Northwest improves to 31-9 overall and 20-6 in the conference.

East Central’s only runs in the five-inning, run-rule opener came on solo home runs by sophomore right fielder Ken Scott (Clarkdale) the second and fourth innings. Northwest produced 16 runs on just seven hits, taking advantage of 11 walked batters and two grand slams.

In the nightcap, the Warriors trailed 2-1 heading to the top of the seventh inning. East Central tied the game on a bunt single by sophomore second baseman Anderson Shelley (Greenville, Washington School) that scored freshman first baseman Evan Keith (Vancleave), who opened the inning with a single.

However, Northwest won the game in walk-off fashion with a bases-loaded, two-out single in the bottom of the eighth.

East Central’s other run of the game came on an RBI single by redshirt freshman center fielder Dakota Kennedy (Choctaw Central) in the top of the sixth.

The Warriors outhit Northwest six to four in the loss.

East Central closes out the MACJC regular season next week when they play at Meridian on Tuesday, April 30, at 4 p.m. and then travel to Clarksdale to face Coahoma on Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m.

The final regular season home game will be a nine-inning affair against Shelton State (Ala.) at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.
