The East Central Community College men’s basketball team fell 94-78 to No. 9 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.

Jones jumped out to an early lead that they never surrendered throughout the game.

Jones led 51-36 at the half.

The Warriors closed their deficit in the second half, but could not fight back from the damage done early in the game.  

East Central was led by Alvin “A.J.” McFarland of West Point High School with a career-high 17 points. Other Warriors in double-digit scoring were Tonzell Handy of Lanier High School with 13 points and Thurston McCarty of Quitman High School who added 12 points.

The loss drops the Warriors to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in division.

East Central will travel to Utica for a MACJC south division matchup against Hinds Community College Monday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
