The East Central Community College women’s soccer team halted a three match losing streak Tuesday, Sept. 12, with a 5-0 shutout win at Hinds Community College.

The Lady Warriors, who were struggling to find the net in the three loses scoring only one goal, scored three first-half goals and added two more in the second half of action.

Sophomore midfielder Aubree Patterson out of Richland had two goals in the first half and sophomore midfielder Ashley Langham of Florence added a third. Second half goals were by freshman forward Helaina Wellington of Sydney, Australia, and sophomore midfielder Haley Hutcherson of Clarkdale.

The East Central women improved to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in North Division play. Hinds fell to 0-5 overall, and 0-3 in the league.

In the men’s action that followed, Hinds came away with a 5-1 win over East Central. The Warriors’ lone goal came on a penalty kick by sophomore midfielder Jacob Thomas out of Northwest Rankin.

The Warriors fell to 2-1-1 in the MACJC North Division and 3-2-1 overall. Hinds improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. East Central still sits atop the North Division standings.

Both matches were played in Raymond.

The ECCC men will travel to Perkinston to take on Andrew College out of Cuthbert, Ga., on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. The Warriors will then travel to Summit to face Southwest on Wednesday, Sept. 20, and to Ellisville to play Jones County on Friday, Sept. 22. The women aren’t in action again until Sept. 25 at Pearl River in Poplarville.
