Aubree Patterson netted the game-winning goal to give the East Central Community College women’s soccer team its fifth straight season-opening win, a 1-0 shutout of Motlow State Community College Saturday, Aug. 26.

The match against the Lady Bucks from Tullahoma, Tenn., was played on the Meridian Community College campus in Meridian.

Patterson, a sophomore midfielder out of Richland, found the net with 41 minutes left to play in the first half for the only score in the match.

Freshmen Sarah Gilliland out of Northwest Rankin and Jordan Haven from Horn Lake combined for the shutout in goal.

“I was proud of how we came out today and played,” said ECCC Coach Gray Massey. “I would have liked to finish our opportunities a little better, but I was able to see a lot of good things that will get us ready for the opening of division play Friday.”

Massey is 5-0 in season openers as the East Central Community College women’s soccer coach.

East Central will open Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges North Division play Friday, Sept. 1, against Holmes at 2 p.m. in Ridgeland.
