ECCC Women’s Tennis Team Named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year; 5 Additional Teams Recognized

Led by the Women’s Tennis team, six East Central Community College varsity sports teams earned National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Team of the Year Honorable Mention awards for having met the grade-point average requirement of 3.00 or better for the 2019-2020 academic year.

With a 3.83 team GPA, the ECCC women’s tennis team finished first among all NJCAA Women’s Tennis teams and was named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year for Women’s Tennis. They also finished first among all East Central sports teams and first among all Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges women’s tennis teams.

Also qualifying for academic honors were the Women’s Softball team with a 3.64 team GPA, which was fourth among all MACJC teams and 10^th in the NJCAA; Women’s Soccer with a 3.48, which was seventh in the MACJC and 19^th in NJCAA rankings; Men’s Baseball with a 3.22; Men’s Tennis with a 3.06, which was 30^th in the NJCAA; and Men’s Soccer with a 3.03 which was fifth among all MACJC teams and 38^th overall in the NJCAA.

In addition to the team awards, 40 East Central Community College student-athletes were awarded individual National Junior College Athletic Association academic awards.
