Ron Perkins of Louisville, a former Diamond Warrior and captain of the 1998 state championship team, will be the featured speaker at the annual East Central Community College Baseball First Pitch Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. The event will be held in the Mabry Memorial Cafeteria on the Decatur campus.

The public is invited to the event which annually kicks off the ECCC baseball season. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children age 12 and under.

In addition to dinner and Perkins’ address, ECCC Head Baseball Coach Neal Holliman will introduce his 2019 team and the 2019 Diamond Darlings, along with other special presentations and recognition.

The ECCC Diamond Warriors will kick off their season on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Chalmette, La., against Nunez Community College. The home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 17, when the Warriors host Jefferson College out of Hillsboro, Mo., at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.

Perkins was team captain for the 1998 Warriors team that defeated Gulf Coast 15-8 to win the college’s first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Championship. East Central finished with a 32-22 record that season.

A native of Louisville, Perkins graduated from Greenwood High School in Bowling Green, Ky., before attending ECCC on a baseball scholarship. He later attended Mississippi State University and graduated from Belhaven College in Jackson in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in business and sports administration.

He has been a pharmaceutical sales professional since 2001, spending the past 13 years with Novo Nordisk based out of Princeton, N.J. He current is an Obesity Care Specialist.
