The East Central Community College Lady Warriors fell to 3-3 on the year on Tuesday night, Nov. 16, as the team lost to No. 11 Shelton State, 78-42. Due to injuries, the Lady Warrior lineup was sparse, but those that saw the floor played hard as they duked it out with the Lady Bucs.

Neither team scored in the opening two minutes of play, but Shelton State broke the ice at the 7:53 mark and rattled off a 15-2 run to start the game. The Lady Warriors did not let the big lead intimidate them as ECCC began to chip away at the lead. Some big baskets from Shemaiah Smith (Terry) and Mirial Cannon (Madison) in the final couple of minutes of the frame cut the lead to just seven, 17-10, going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was ECCC's most productive as the team poured in 14 points. Unfortunately for the Lady Warriors, the second proved the Bucs best of the night as they netted 26 to take a 43-22 lead into the half.

The second half saw the Bucs grow their lead, despite the Lady Warriors' best efforts. ECCC continued to crash the boards and dive for loose balls until the final buzzer with Shelton State on top, 78-42.

ECCC shot 37 percent on the night to Shelton State's 41 and outrebounded the Bucs by one, 38-37. Cannon was ECCC's leading scorer with her biggest performance of the year so far, 14 points, on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor and 3-for-3 on trips to the free-throw line. Wynter Taylor (Dallas, Texas) and Smith both finished with eight. Myeisha Scott (Jackson) continued her dominance in the paint as she snagged a season-high 12 rebounds. Cannon, Mer'Cades Miller, (McComb), and Faith Guy (Enterprise) all posted two assists, while Cori Keats (Philadelphia) had ECCC's only block.

The Lady Warriors were scheduled to take on the Northwest Florida State Raiders this Saturday, Nov. 20, but that home game has been cancelled. The Lady Warriors will be back in action on Monday, November 29th as Coastal Alabama-North travels to Decatur for a 5 p.m. tipoff. That game can be seen live at www.eccclive.com/gold.
