The Lady Warriors of East Central Community College had hot bats to open MACCC play as they posted 17 runs on 25 hits in a sweep over East Mississippi Community College Saturday, Feb. 27. The wins move the Lady Warriors to 3-7 overall, but more importantly, to 2-0 in MACCC play. East Miss drops to 0-8 on the season.

"We told our players this past week that everybody is 0-0 right now going into conference play," said ECCC head softball coach Leigh White. "We worked on some offensive weaknesses to get prepared for these two games and felt like we had some good practices to prepare for today. Our pitchers pitched to win, and they had some fun today."

Game One | W, 9-4

The Lady Warriors were on the bags early with a pair of singles in the first before Katelynn Gipson (Decatur) got them home with a high-flying home run to left. Molly Moore (Meridian) added another two runs later in the frame with a base-clearing double to make it 5-0, ECCC.

The bats continued to roll in the third as Mattie Hodge (Laurel) and Sidney Rone (Ethel) both drove in runs on a single and double, respectively. After the RBIs, the Lady Warriors led 7-0.

EMCC scratched one back in the bottom of the fourth, but Alana Edmonds (Lake) ripped a single to center field to plate two more for the Lady Warriors making it 9-1.

The Lady Lions did not throw in the towel on the game as they plated three in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-4, but the Lady Warriors locked down the remainder of the game to secure the win.

Gracey Baucom (Purvis) led the Lady Warriors from the circle. The righty went the distance and surrendered four runs on six hits and struck out three to earn the win. Maggie Meadows took the loss for EMCC.

Gipson's homer gave her a team-high three RBIs, while Hollingsworth posted two hits to lead the Lady Warriors.

Game Two | W, 8-0

The Lady Warriors were right back in action in the nightcap as Gipson drove in an early run and Rone scored on an error to make it 2-0 in the top of the first.

The bats fired up again in the third as Moore ripped an RBI single followed by a triple from Faith Guy (Pachuta). Lizzy Hollingsworth (Decatur) kept it rolling with a solo homer to push the ECCC advantage to 7-0.

Hollingsworth added another in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0 before Braelyn Boykin (Mize) slammed the door from the circle in the bottom half of the frame to secure the abbreviated, run-rule victory.

Boykin threw all five innings from the rubber and surrendered no runs on four hits and struck out five.

Guy led the way at the plate for ECCC with three hits, while Moore, Hodge, and Zharia Richardson (Gulfport) all added two. Hollingsworth posted three RBIs in the win.
