A strong fourth-quarter performance propelled the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College to a victory over the Co-Lin Lady Wolves on sophomore night, 52-45. The win on March 27 moves the Lady Warriors to 4-9 on the year and wrapped up regular season play.

It was a defensive battle in the opening half of play as steals, blocks, and solid on-ball defense from both squads limited scoring. The Lady Warriors led Co-Lin 11-5 at the end of the first, but a quick bounce back from Co-Lin cut the lead to just one, 21-20, going into the locker room.

The third quarter was back and forth and continued the low-scoring trend. The Lady Warriors barely outpaced the Lady Wolves in the 10-minute stretch as they netted 14 points to Co-Lin's 13.

ECCC came alive in the fourth quarter with some big baskets from Inda Singleton (Laurel) and Mirial Cannon (Madison). Down the stretch, the Lady Warriors correct some free throw troubles that had plagued the team from the opening tip. In the final three minutes, the Lady Warriors were able to rattle home eight freebies to seal the seven-point, 52-45, victory.

The Lady Warriors were led by Sylvia Jones (Brighton, Tenn.) in the scoring column as she came off the bench to score 11. Cannon led the team on the boards with 13 rebounds and was just one point shy of a double-double as she poured in nine. Asia Madison (Hazlehurst) also hauled in double-digit rebounds with 10, while posting five blocks. Shemiah Smith (Terry) also had five swats in the game.

ECCC finished the game with 13 blocks and 14 steals to the Lady Wolves four and six, respectively. The Lady Warriors shot 32 percent from the field, while Co-Lin shot 28. Co-Lin outrebounded ECCC 51 to 43.

The Lady Warriors now turn their attention to the MACCC playoffs as the team travels to Meridian Community College on Wednesday, March 31 to face the Lady Eagles in the opening round at 6 p.m.
