The East Central Community College women’s basketball team picked up an important 77-61 MACJC South Division win against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in a game played in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur Thursday, Feb. 9.

East Central led most of the ballgame after taking the lead in the first quarter and was up by nine at the intermission.

Leading all scorers was Laneisha Jeans of Pine Forest (Fla.) High School with 21 points, three assists, and six steals. Curtisha Coleman of Wayne County High School posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Also, in double digits were Aniyah Marshall of Itawamba Agricultural High School with 11 points and Shantavis Hughes of Hattiesburg High School adding 10 points for the Lady Warriors.

The win improved the Lady Warriors’ record to 5-5 in the South Division and 11-8 on the season. Gulf Coast dropped to 1-9 in the division and 7-12 overall.

The East Central women’s basketball team will be back in action Monday, Feb. 13, against Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson at 6 p.m.

They will return home to play Pearl River Community College Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium.
