The No. 10 ranked East Central Community College Lady Warriors came back strong to take a 10-7 win in the nightcap and earn a doubleheader split at Pearl River Community College Wednesday, April 18.

The MACJC conference games were played at Lady Wildcat Stadium in Poplarville.

The Pearl River Lady Wildcats won the opener 7-2. East Central ran out to a 10-1 lead in the second game and held on for the 10-7 win.

The East Central Lady Warriors are now 30-10 on the season and 17-9 in MACJC play. East Central sits alone in third place in the league standings with two games to play. The Pearl River Lady Wildcats are 22-18 overall and 15-11 in league play.

Despite only being out-hit 10-9 in the opener, the Lady Warriors could manage just two runs. The Lady Wildcats took advantage of a couple of East Central miscues to plate two of its seven runs. East Central’s scores came on a solo home run from Madalyn McMahon of Neshoba Central in the first and an RBI single from Mackenzie Johnson of Nanih Waiya in the fourth.

Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy (Columbus) took the loss in the circle for the Lady Warriors.

East Central scored in each of the first five innings to grab a 10-1 lead in game two.

Kayla Beckham out of Neshoba Central popped a two-run homer in the first and Katherine Shell of Brookhaven knocked a two-run home run in the second. Other Lady Warrior runs came on an RBI single from Tagen Remmel of Clinton in the third, and RBI singles from Eva Scott (Burleson, Texas) and Johnson, along with a bases loaded walk, in the fourth. Current MACJC Player of the Week Cassie Obman of Caledonia drove in two runs with a single in the fifth.

East Central had a chance to end the game by run-rule in the fifth, before Pearl River scored three runs. The Lady Wildcats score three more in seventh to make the final score 10-7.

Mackenzie Rousseau (Houma, La., Vanderbilt Catholic) picked up the win, with relief help from Oswalt in the seventh.

East Central closes out the regular season at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia on Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The MACJC State Playoffs begin Friday, April 27.
