The No. 16 East Central Community College Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak with an extra-inning win in game two and split a baseball doubleheader against the East Mississippi Community College Lions, Sunday, April 8, at Gerald Poole Field in Scooba.

East Central dropped the opener 10-2, but came back to take the second game 7-5 in eight innings.

With the split, East Central is 20-10 overall on the season and 9-5 in MACJC league play. The Warriors are tied for third in the league. The East Mississippi Lions are 11-15 overall and 4-8 in MACJC play.

In the nightcap, East Central came back from a three-run deficit to force extra innings. East Mississippi led 4-1 heading to the top of the sixth when the Warriors tied the game 4-4 with only one hit. A double by freshman Ken Scott of Clarkdale drove in two runs and another crossed the plate on an error.

East Mississippi regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth before the Warriors tied it again in the top of the sixth when a sacrifice fly from freshman George Farid (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) drove in Jacob Edwards of Newton County, who had doubled. The game remained tied 5-5 until the top of the eighth when East Central took advantage of three walks and two errors to push two runs across the plate for the 7-5 win.

Sophomore Dylan Marsh picked up the win in relief. The right-hander from Lake Cormorant pitched the final three innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out five.

In the game one loss, the Warriors managed only four hits against East Mississippi pitcher Chance Witt, while the Lions collected 16 hits off four Warrior pitchers. East Central’s only runs came on a passed ball in the top of the first and a fielder’s choice in the top of the fifth.
