The Lady Warriors of East Central Community College were neck and neck with the No. 2 Jones College Lady Bobcats on Monday, March 1, at the half, but ultimately fell, 70-49. The loss moves ECCC to 1-4 on the year and improves Jones to 9-0.

Scoring was sparse in the early minutes as the game was tied at 6-6 with just 2:27 remaining in the first quarter. Eventually, the teams would get their feet under them and after one, Jones led by one, 14-13.

A 5-0 run at the start of the second quarter put the Lady Bobcats on top 19-13 in the second quarter, but a big three-pointer from Ja'Lancia Kohlheim (Tupelo) and a pair of free throws from Wynter Taylor (Dallas, Texas) kept the Lady Warriors in the contest. At the half, the Lady Warriors trailed by just four, 30-26.

Jones rattled off an 11-0 run in the third to take a commanding lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the contest. ECCC fought through the final minutes but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Taylor came off the bench to lead the Lady Warriors in scoring with 12 points on three-of-six shooting, including two-of-three from beyond the arc. Shemaiah Smith (Terry) posted eight, while Sylvia Jones (Brighton, Tenn.) also netted eight. Smith also led the team in rebounds with seven.

Jones College was led by JaKayla Johnson's 16 points, while Lekera Hughes and Jayla Alexander scored 11. Daisha Bradford posted a team-high 10 rebounds.
