No. 5 ECCC Baseball Drops 4 Spring Break Games

The East Central Community College Warriors moved up to No. 5 in the most recent NJCAA Division II Baseball Top 20 Poll before dropping four straight games over two days during Spring Break play at Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

East Central dropped a doubleheader to Division I Panola College 9-6 and 17-3 on Tuesday, March 13. The Warriors then fell to Southeastern Community College (West Burlington, Iowa) 13-10 and 8-5 on Wednesday, March 14. East Central swept Southeastern in a doubleheader back on Feb. 17.

The Warriors fell to 11-5 on the season with the losses.

Freshman infielder George Farid (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) hit his first two home runs of the season over the four games. He collected six total hits, including three doubles and four RBI. Ryan Cupit, a freshman outfielder out of West Monroe, La., collected six hits in the four games, including two doubles and five RBI. Sophomore first baseman Davis Lott of Olive Branch had five hits in the games, including two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.

Sophomore left-hander Brooks Warren of French Camp struck out 12 batters in just five innings of work in his start against Southeastern.

East Central will begin MACJC conference play Saturday, March 17, against Coahoma Community College at 2 p.m. at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

The Warriors will host two MACJC doubleheaders next week. Southwest Mississippi Community College visits Wednesday, March 21, for games at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Holmes Community College is in town Saturday, March 24, for games at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
