The Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers used the long ball in game one and a big seventh inning in game two to sweep the No. 8 ranked East Central Community College Lady Warrior softball team Sunday, April 8, at the ECCC Softball Park in Decatur.

Northeast won the opener 8-2 and the nightcap 9-3.

The Lady Warriors fell to 25-9 overall on the season and 12-8 in MACJC play. The Northeast Tigers improved to 22-15 overall and 13-7 in league play.

Northeast scored five of its runs in the first game on four home runs as the wind was blowing out to left field most of the afternoon. Tiger batters accounted for two-run homers in the second and third innings and solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

East Central managed seven hits in the contest but could only get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Marlee Parkes out of Nanih Waiya tripled in two runs.

Kaitlyn Oswalt of Heritage Academy in Columbus took the loss for East Central.

The Tigers grabbed an early lead in game two, striking for three runs in the top of the first inning, two of them unearned. East Central closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the third on back-to-back RBI singles from Cassie Obman of Caledonia and Ali Gartman of Loyd Star High School.

The score remained 3-2 until the bottom of the sixth when East Central’s Tagen Remmel of Clinton hit a line drive over the left field fence to tie the score.

The Tigers regained the lead, and for good, in the top of the seventh with six runs and the 9-3 win. Northeast hit its fifth home run of the game in the seventh, a three-run shot.

East Central committed five errors in the second game.

Mackenzie Rousseau (Houma, La., Vanderbilt Catholic) took the loss for the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Warriors will make a trip to Raymond on Tuesday, April 10, to face Hinds Community College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., before hosting Mississippi Delta Community College Friday, April 13, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Softball Park in Decatur in the final regular season home games of the year.
