The Lady Warriors of East Central Community College (0-2) showed grit and hustle on Monday night, Feb. 1, but the No. 8 Jones College Lady Bobcats (3-0) were too much as they grabbed a 74-46 victory. ECCC never relented on their effort, but the shots were just not falling for Lady Warriors in the home opener.

The Lady Bobcats leaped out in front early in the game and quickly grew a 20-point advantage after netting 30 points in the first quarter. East Central began to slow them down later in the contest with the Lady Bobcats scoring less and less in each consecutive quarter, but the offense could not narrow the margin. At the half, Jones led 47-23.

The second half was much of the same, and the Lady Warriors continued to run the floor, get up shots, and play fierce defense despite trailing in the contest.

Asia Madison (Hazlehurst) led ECCC in scoring with eight points and in rebounds as she hauled in nine. Jakayla Johnson led Jones with 21 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Turnovers plagued the Lady Warriors as they gave up the ball 10 more times than the Lady Bobcats.

The Lady Warriors look to bounce back on Thursday night as the team travels to Meridian to face the Lady Eagles (3-0) at 6 p.m.
