The Lady Warriors of East Central Community College picked up a key split with the Hinds Lady Eagles on Wednesday, April 20, as ECCC bounced back from a game one loss with a stellar 11-7 victory in the nightcap. The split moved the Lady Warriors to 23-19 on the year and to 12-12 in conference play. With just two MACCC series remaining, the Lady Warriors sit in seventh place in the conference standings. 

Mary Moore Widemire led the Lady Warriors at the plate in the series as she went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Emmi Harkins, Lizzy Hollingsworth, Meadow Villar, and Taylor Pittman joined Widemire with two RBIs each. 

Game One | L, 3-1

Both the Warriors and Eagles had strong performances in the circle in the opener as there were just seven hits in the first game, a 3-1 Hinds win. 

Hinds' Kendall Calloway picked up the win for Hinds as she went all seven innings and allowed just one hit and posted two strikeouts, while Rae Rae Evans threw all seven innings as well, giving up six hits, three runs – all earned – walked one, and struck out seven. 

All three of Hinds runs came on solo homers with two in the fourth and one in the sixth. 

Mary Moore Widemire had ECCC's lone hit, a single in the sixth, but the Lady Warriors run came after Meadow Villar reached on an error and scored on a groundout from Emmi Harkins in the bottom of the seventh. 

Game Two | W, 11-7

The Lady Warriors plated nine unanswered runs in the nightcap to earn the series split with an 11-7 win over the Lady Eagles.  

An explosive first inning had Hinds up 3-2 before the Lady Eagles poured in four more in the top of the second. ECCC's two runs came from a towering homer from Villar in the bottom of the first. 

RBI singles from Harkins and Shante' Beaulieu and an RBI triple from Lizzy Hollingsworth pulled the game to just one run, 7-6, in the bottom of the third. 

With two runners on and an 0-2 count, Widemire came up big for the Lady Warriors in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single that put ECCC on top, 8-7. ECCC went on to plate three more in the frame to pull away with the win.  

Caroline Jackson got the start in the circle, while Jayce Currie threw in relief, but Evans checked in to throw the final four and two-thirds innings and picked up the win. Melina Seiferd took the loss for Hinds.

Widemire, Currie, and Harkins all had two hits to lead the Lady Warriors at the plate.
