Ovid Vickers, retired East Central Community College English instructor and longtime weekly newspaper columnist, will release his second book, “Notes in the Margin: A Collection of Columns About East Central Community College,” during the college’s annual Homecoming festivities scheduled Saturday, Oct. 15.

Copies will be available for purchase for $30, which includes tax, with net proceeds being designated for the ECCC Foundation. Books can also be pre-ordered and/or shipped for a minimal fee. For more information visit www.eccc.edu/estore.

Vickers, who retired from the college in 1995 after 40-plus years of service and continues to live with his wife, Carol, near the campus in Decatur, will be available to sign copies of his latest publication from 10 to 11 a.m. in the East Mall area near Mabry Memorial Cafeteria.

“Notes in the Margin” is a collection of essays Vickers pulled from his weekly newspaper columns, which highlight various people, places and events associated with East Central Community College.

ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart wrote in the book’s message from the president, “As I now read the compilation of articles contained in this book, I am once again reminded of the passage in Deuteronomy 6:11 which states that we all drink from wells we did not dig. That is certainly true at East Central today. We continue to be the beneficiaries of countless numbers of great men and women who went before us and who, like Mr. Vickers, are legends at East Central.

“I trust that as you read this book you will enjoy the history of East Central contained in it, including stories about the college’s faculty, student body, and campus facilities... .”
