The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs took a 5-1 win over the East Central Community College Lady Warriors, and the Bulldogs followed with a 4-0 shutout of the East Central Warriors in MACJC North Division soccer action Friday, Sept. 7, at Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

East Central’s only goal in the women’s match came in the first half off the foot of freshman forward Bethany Hand of Dublin Ireland. It was the first goal allowed this season by the Holmes Lady Bulldogs.

“It was a tough match against a quality opponent,” commented ECCC head women’s coach Ryan Joiner. “We’re a bit decimated with numbers from injuries and illnesses of late. The girls desire was there today, but the legs ran their course. All the credit to Holmes for finishing their chances.”

The Lady Warriors fell to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in MACJC North Division play. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Holmes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half to put the match away early in the men’s action.

With the loss, the Warriors are now 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in North Division play. Holmes is 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the division.

The ECCC Warriors and Lady Warriors are back home on Friday, Sept. 14, to face Hinds Community College. Those MACJC North Division matches begin at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
