The East Central Community College Warrior Walking Club will hold a kickoff event Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Dick Livingston Recreational/Study Trail near the EC Lake on the Decatur campus.

The Warrior Walking Club was implemented in October thanks to a grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation to support the college’s Warrior Wellness initiative that is helping to create and sustain a culture of wellness on the East Central campuses and in the local communities.

According to Dianne O’Neill of Decatur, former ECCC tennis coach and an external member of the college’s Warrior Wellness Committee, the Warrior Walking Club is for walkers and runners. The Warrior Walking Club already has several teams that meet at various times each day and log their walking (or running) miles each month. O’Neill said there are no fees or commitments to being a member of the Warrior Walking Club, and anyone can join.

At the kickoff event Nov. 17, O’Neill and Crystal Fitzgerald, ECCC’s Wellness Coordinator, will give an overview of the club and provide water, healthy snacks, and individual awards for miles logged in October.
