ECCC Basketball Teams Split Games at East Mississippi

Riding a strong third period by sophomore guard Autumn Taylor, the East Central Community College Lady Warriors remained undefeated with an 85-76 road win over the East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions Thursday, Nov. 9, in Scooba.

In the men’s action that followed, East Central could not hold on to a four-point halftime lead and fell 65-58 to the EMCC Lions.

A Tale of Two Teams for 2017-18 ECCC Basketball: Youth vs. Experience

The East Central Community College basketball teams are prepared to hit the hardwood for the 2017-18 season with a mix of youth and experience, and with expectations to be playing in the postseason come late February.

The Lady Warriors and Warriors open their 23-game seasons Thursday, Nov. 2, at home against Coahoma Community College. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. from Brackeen-Wood Gym on the campus in Decatur. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Soccer Season Ends for East Central Men in State Tournament

The season came to an end for the East Central Community College men’s soccer team Saturday, Oct. 28, with a 3-0 loss to Pearl River Community College in the semifinals of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State/National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament played at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

Pearl River scored three second half goals to break a scoreless halftime tie to get the win and advance to the tournament finals.

ECCC Women’s Soccer Wins Season Finale at Southwest

The East Central Community College women’s soccer team got goals from three different players en route to a 3-1 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College Friday, Oct. 20, in Summit.

East Central completed its season with a 6-4-2 overall record and 3-4-1 in the MACJC North Division. Southwest completed its season 4-10 overall and 1-7 in the MACJC South Division.

It was the fourth straight winning season for the East Central women, and the first time the Lady Warriors missed the playoffs since 2013.
