Naming of a Campus Building and/or Facility

(Refer to Policy 300.3.1 in the ECCC Policies & Procedures Manual for additional information)

The naming of a campus building, facility, and/or part of a campus building or facility at East Central Community College (ECCC) shall be considered one of the highest awards possible from the College. The intention of bestowing such an honor will be to place in the public eye truly deserving persons or entities who/which will be permanently associated with ECCC. In so much as possible, the name selected for a campus building or facility or part of a campus building or facility shall be in keeping with the function of the building or facility, and shall reflect a careful match between the person(s) for whom the building or facility is to be named and its purpose and function.

Any individual or entity that has made significant and/or long-standing contributions to ECCC is eligible for consideration. Individuals may include, but are not limited to, former faculty, staff, or administrators; alumni; former members of the Board of Trustees; or private citizens. The process of selection for this honor shall be exempt from the pressures of families, politics, and friendships.

NOMINATION PROCESS

The nomination process for the naming of a campus building, facility, and/or part of a campus building or facility includes:

  1. Nominators must complete the Special Recognition Nomination Form found on the right side navigation of this webpage. Nominators should print and complete the PDF of the form.
     
  2. Nominators should compile a Nomination Packet to include the completed Special Recognition Nomination Form and the required documentation detailed below:
  • Listing of nominee’s contributions and service to the College including years of service/attendance/etc.;
  • Listing of nominee’s personal and professional accomplishments;
  • Letter of Endorsement signed by the nominator including reason(s) why the honor is deserved and why the nominee should be associated with the College in this manner; and
  • Two (2) additional Letters of Endorsements from others who are familiar with the nominee and his/her contributions and service to the College.
  1. Nominators must return the completed Nomination Packet including all of the documentation as noted above in a sealed envelope. The Nomination Packet can be hand-delivered to the Office of the President located in the Arno Vincent Administration Building or the Nomination Packet may be mailed to the Office of the President at the following address:

The deadline for submission of a Nomination Packet is September 30, 2019. Please note that an incomplete Nomination Packet or a complete Nomination Packet received after the deadline will not be considered.

  1. Due to the sensitive nature of this process, the College requests that the nominator keep each nomination confidential, especially to the prospective honoree.
     
  2. There should be no effort by the nominator to solicit support for his or her nomination beyond the required documentation described above.

A separate Nomination Packet must be completed for each solicitation to name a campus building, facility, or part of a campus building or facility. Completed Nomination Packets will not be kept on file in the Office of the President for future consideration.

The final decision regarding the naming of a campus building, facility, and/or part of a campus building or facility will be the responsibility of the ECCC Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to reopen the nomination process should there not be an acceptable nominee.
